Scott Cochran, who served as the special teams coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs, is reportedly no longer with the team due to personal reasons, as confirmed by Dawgs Daily and initially reported by UGAsports.com. Cochran, who has been associated with Kirby Smart for an extended period, joined the Bulldogs in 2020 in his role as special teams coordinator. Prior to that, he spent 13 seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Cochran’s coaching experience extends beyond college football, including stints in the NBA as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Charlotte Hornets, as well as holding a similar role with the LSU Tigers.
This departure isn’t the first time Cochran has taken a break from the Bulldogs program; he previously stepped away to focus on his mental health and recovery from alcohol use. However, no official statements have been released by the university, Cochran, or Kirby Smart regarding his current departure. It appears unlikely that Cochran will continue in his roles as both the strength and conditioning coach and special teams coordinator for the Bulldogs, based on current indications. In his previous hiatus from the team, Cochran eventually returned after a few months, maintaining his title as special teams coordinator while working off the field in the weight room.
