Moton highlighted that Brooks fills a significant gap in Miami’s defense as a skilled linebacker who learned from the renowned Bobby Wagner in Seattle. He praised Brooks’ tackling ability, noting his consistent performance in recording over 161 tackles in both 2021 and 2022 while maintaining a low missed tackle rate. Although Brooks’ missed tackle rate rose slightly to 9.8% in 2023, Moton pointed out his improved contribution to the Seahawks’ pass rush with a career-high 4.5 sacks.
Given the Dolphins’ injured edge rushers, Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, Moton suggested that Brooks might be utilized as a pass rusher in blitz packages. He predicted Brooks to emerge as the leader of the Dolphins’ defense, making impactful plays on all downs.
Examining the contract details reveals that the Dolphins essentially committed to Brooks for two years, with the option to part ways after the second year without significant financial repercussions. This strategy allows them flexibility in case Brooks underperforms.
Despite some areas for improvement, such as creating turnovers and run defense, Brooks brings speed and athleticism to the Dolphins’ defense. He expressed confidence in his speed and excitement about joining the Dolphins under the coaching of Anthony Weaver, considering the team’s upward trajectory.
