Last week, the football community was struck by tragedy when Minnesota Vikings defensive back Khyree Jackson, former Penn State and Florida State defensive back AJ Lytton, and former Maryland and Charlotte defensive back Isaiah Hazel died in a car crash in suburban Washington D.C., just across the Maryland border.
These three young men were taken far too soon, and the entire football world mourned their loss. Tragically, a memorial service for the three DMV natives on Friday evening took a dark turn when shots were fired at the site.
Reports of the shooting at Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, began to surface on social media shortly after the incident. Fox 5’s Shomari Stone provided a detailed report just after midnight ET on Saturday.

“We’re in the parking lot, coming out. We saw people lighting off fireworks, right? Everything seemed okay. But then, within 20 to 30 minutes, shots rang out here in the parking lot in front of Wise High School. Police are here now. This is a large crime scene. Several shots were fired. Sources close to the investigation tell me one person was shot in the chest and another in the leg. A woman and a man were also shot. One person is in critical condition, and the other is stable,” Stone reported.
This incident only deepens the sorrow of an already tragic situation. We hope for the recovery of those injured and that the perpetrators are quickly brought to justice.
Khyree Jackson was a 4th-round pick out of Oregon in the 2024 NFL Draft.
