Rebranding the Lions’ practice facility as the Meijer Performance Center is part of a larger initiative to embed Meijer’s branding into the local sports community. Meijer’s name will now feature prominently in stories and reports related to the Lions’ training facility, integrating the brand into the minds of local fans. As Justin Rogers of the Detroit Football Network notes, this move is similar to the branding strategies seen at Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena, bolstering Meijer’s presence in Detroit’s sports scene.

Additionally, Meijer’s logo will appear on the team’s practice jerseys outside of training camp. While fans generally do not buy practice jerseys, the media coverage and photo galleries will increase Meijer’s visibility.

Fans attending open training camp practices will see immediate benefits from the Meijer partnership. The sideline bleachers and VIP tents have been upgraded with coverings, providing protection from the August sun and light rain showers, thereby enhancing the fan experience during training camp sessions.

During the press conference, Detroit Lions team president Rod Wood addressed speculation about the team potentially relocating its practice facility from Allen Park, where the team has been based for over two decades. Wood confirmed the team’s commitment to remaining at their current location, stating, “I know there’s always speculation about how long we’re going to stay here. This is a long-term partnership. This is our home for the foreseeable future, and we’ll continue to invest in it.”

While Wood did not reveal the length of the agreement with Meijer or whether the naming rights would transfer if the team moved, he emphasized the team’s dedication to enhancing the existing facility. He mentioned that the team has invested $4 million into revamping the training room this offseason, describing it as an investment in both the facility and the players.
