ICYM: Ohio stuns fans with the best commitment of NCAA season

Several recruits who have committed to other schools visited the Florida Gators’ campus on Saturday to watch the team kick off the season against the Miami Hurricanes.

Ohio State defensive line commit Jarquez Carter (6-2, 284, Newberry, FL. High) was among those in attendance and had an overall positive experience.

“Honestly, it was a great game,” Carter said about the Saturday matchup. “Both defensive lines played well, and overall it was just a solid game.”

In previous statements, Carter mentioned wanting to evaluate the Gators’ performance this fall, particularly the defensive line. After watching the game, Carter remains confident in his decision to commit to the Buckeyes.

“Based on what I saw, I feel like the choice I made is 100% the right one after watching the game,” Carter said when asked if Florida did anything to sway his commitment.

Carter also believes that Florida’s defensive line has room for improvement.

“They need to be more aggressive up front,” Carter commented on areas for improvement. “They need to put more pressure on the quarterback and improve tackling in the backfield.”

While Carter anticipated a competitive game, he noted that the Hurricanes showed more intensity early on.

“I wouldn’t say I expected it, but Miami looked hungrier coming out of the gate,” he said when asked if he thought Florida would perform better. “The team that wants it more usually ends up winning.”

Before the game, Carter had the opportunity to speak with several off-field staff members who shared their determination to keep pursuing him.

“They said they’re going to keep fighting until December,” Carter mentioned regarding the staff’s message on Saturday.

Looking ahead, Carter plans to make additional visits, including one to Ohio State.

“I’ll likely be back,” he said when asked if he plans to attend another game. “I’m going to the UCF/Colorado game, and then I’ll visit Ohio State, though I’m not sure which game yet.”
