BREAKING: Deuce Knight Flips Commitment From Irish to Auburn

Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn, as he announced on Wednesday. This decision comes after weeks of speculation that Knight was considering changing his initial pledge from September 2023. The Mississippi native was a key component of Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class and is ranked as a Top 50 player by Rivals, On3, and 247 Sports.

“He’s the most polarizing prospect in the class,” wrote Cooper Petagna, 247Sports national recruiting analyst, about Knight. “It’s not just his position as a quarterback. His physical potential is limitless. He has a 42-inch vertical jump, is a state champion, and has strong genetics with his brother playing at Indiana. He checks all the boxes.”

Standing 6’4”, Knight is regarded as one of the most athletic quarterback prospects in the 2025 class.

“If you dropped him into the NFL scouting combine, he’d rank in the top one percent, especially in the quarterback room,” Petagna added. “The key question with Knight is whether he can develop as a passer. Based on what we’ve seen this offseason, the answer appears to be yes. He had an impressive three days at the Elite 11 finals and continues to improve every time I see him.”

While Notre Dame’s current offense is led by dual-threat quarterback Riley Leonard, the future of the position still looks promising, despite Knight’s departure to Auburn. Consensus four-star quarterback CJ Carr, a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class, is expected to be a future star for the Irish. Carr, who is currently behind Leonard and Steve Angeli, will be competing for the starting quarterback role next season.

Carr, standing 6’3″ and weighing 210 pounds, is from Saline, Michigan, and the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. He chose Notre Dame over powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Michigan. In his junior year of high school, he completed 199 of 292 passes (68.2 percent) for 2,754 yards, with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for nine touchdowns. Over his high school career, Carr threw for 8,135 yards with 78 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He made his Notre Dame debut in a brief appearance during their dominant 66-7 win over Purdue in Week 3.
