Mike Kirschner, head coach at Warren Central High School, always believed Cameron Herron would be a great fit for Notre Dame.
“First of all, he’s an outstanding student,” Kirschner says of the 2025 Indiana offensive lineman. “And secondly, he’s a really good football player who works extremely hard, both in and out of season, especially in the weight room.”
So, Kirschner wasn’t surprised when Herron switched his commitment from Iowa to Notre Dame earlier this week.
“I think it’s a better fit for him,” Kirschner says. “He’s closer to home, so his parents can attend more games. Family is very important to him, and Notre Dame has always been a dream school for him.”
Herron had been on Notre Dame’s radar for months, visiting unofficially in the winter and standing out with a strong performance at Irish Invasion in June. Although Notre Dame’s offer came later in the process, Herron remained patient.
“It says a lot about his character,” Kirschner notes. “He did everything needed to get noticed by Notre Dame. He understood that scholarships are limited, and it wasn’t personal when other players committed first. We always tell our players that the recruiting process isn’t personal—it’s about what schools need for their rosters.”
Kirschner believes Notre Dame made a great move by landing Herron.
“He’s got the physicality, toughness, arm length, and hand size they look for,” Kirschner says. “His hands are NFL-sized, based on Combine measurements, and his work ethic is top-notch.”
