Kevin Durant is staying focused on basketball and not thinking about contract extension talks as he prepares for the 2024-25 season with the Phoenix Suns. After the Suns made a major trade to acquire Durant in February 2023, locking him in long-term is a priority, especially with his contract ending in 2026.
However, when asked about it after preseason practices, Durant emphasized that he’s focused on his current deal and improving his game, rather than worrying about money or extensions.
Durant has two seasons left on his contract, earning $51.1 million this season and $54.7 million next season. While he’s eligible for a one- or two-year extension, Durant isn’t in a hurry to make a decision. Phoenix Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein confirmed the team is discussing an extension with Durant, stressing the strong relationship between the franchise and the player.
Durant remains a top performer, averaging 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season. With new additions to the roster, the Suns are hoping Durant will lead them to a potential championship this season, especially after their disappointing first-round loss to the Timberwolves last year.
