Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen may be fearless on the field, but he confessed to being quite nervous before taking on a different kind of challenge—proposing to his girlfriend, Hailee Steinfeld.
Allen proposed to the actress and singer during the team’s bye week and shared the happy news on Instagram the following week. While he only briefly mentioned the proposal after the Bills’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers, he opened up more in a newsletter Steinfeld published this week.
In the latest edition of her “BEAU SOCIETY” newsletter, Steinfeld posed 17 questions to No. 17, where Allen admitted to feeling “very nervous” before proposing and even becoming emotional earlier that day.
Josh Allen’s Worked Hard to Keep Big Secret
In her newsletter, Steinfeld shared that Allen appeared “so chill” during the proposal, though the Bills quarterback admitted he was actually filled with nerves, especially about keeping it a surprise.
“I was very nervous,” Allen revealed. “I think what made me most anxious was the fear of you finding out about the proposal. It was tough to keep secrets from you and to ask others in your life to do the same. Throughout the day, there were moments when a song would play, and I’d tear up just thinking about how special our day was going to be.”
Allen admitted it wasn’t easy to keep his cool, especially when Steinfeld unknowingly brought up marriage that very day.
“The funniest part was that we woke up getting ready for brunch, and you jumped on the bed saying, ‘Can we get married already?! What are you waiting for?’” Allen recalled. “I just responded, ‘Just give me a little more time.’ Little did you know, I was about to propose to you…”
Allen managed to keep the proposal a secret until the big moment, describing the experience in one word: relief.
“In one word: relieved,” Allen shared in the newsletter. “Relieved that I didn’t mess it up and that no one else did either. You were completely surprised, you said yes, and that’s all that mattered to me. Plus, the sun was shining.”
The couple was first seen together during the 2023 offseason and kept their relationship largely under wraps throughout the season. Despite their preference for privacy, Steinfeld was spotted supporting Allen at several Bills games.
