JUST IN: Yankees Have Serious Interest in Star Infielder to Bolster Lineup Along Max Fried

On the second day of Winter Meetings, the New York Yankees signed lefty starter Max Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract, potentially signaling the start of the team’s major offseason moves.

There are plenty of bats left in free agency, and the organization is looking to improve their lineup as they concentrate on run prevention after losing standout outfielder Juan Soto.

The Yankees’ “real” interest in third baseman Alex Bregman is one method they may improve their offense, according to

Throughout his nine-year major league career, Bregman has been with the Houston Astros, the bitter rivals of the American League, who are also attempting to re-sign their homegrown talent.

As they negotiate with the Astros over Kyle Tucker and the Chicago Cubs over Cody Bellinger, who also plays first base, the Yankees are also looking to add an outfield player to their roster.

Since joining the league, Bregman has been among the top third basemen in baseball and is a true two-way standout on both sides. The Yankees’ batting order would gain much-needed pop from the soon-to-be 31-year-old.

Since Bregman is a right-handed batter, the Yankees will still need to add a left-handed hitter to their lineup in order to balance it out following his departure.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. would eventually return to his natural position at second base thanks to Bregman, who won a Gold Glove Award at the hot corner in 2024.

With the Yankees, Red Sox, Astros, and Tigers all in the running, Bregman might be the next big fish free agent to leave the market, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
