The Las Vegas Raiders endured a disappointing 15-9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 15, as Antonio Pierce’s team stumbled at home, bringing their record to 2-12 for the season. After starting 2-2, the Raiders have now dropped ten straight games, with their last victory coming in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns.
Despite their dismal 2024 season, there have been a few positives, including the performance of safety Tre’von Moehrig. The 25-year-old has been a consistent standout, delivering another strong season as one of the team’s most dependable players.
Tre’von Moehrig has been a cornerstone for the Raiders this season, starting all 14 games and recording two interceptions along with an outstanding 84.9 run defense grade. The former TCU star has also contributed 24 defensive stops and 86 tackles, further solidifying his reputation as a top performer.
Moehrig’s stellar play in 2024 is expected to earn him a lucrative deal in free agency this offseason. According to Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, the talented safety is predicted to join the Baltimore Ravens during the 2025 free agency period.
The Ravens seem to have soured on Marcus Williams, as he has seen a drastic cut in playing time in recent weeks. Still, the defense is at its best when it can employ three safeties like it did last season with Williams, Geno Stone and Kyle Hamilton. Eddie Jackson was supposed to enable them to continue doing that, but they released him.
Tre’Von Moehrig might wind up being too expensive, but he should be a consideration if his market ends up with the mid-range safeties. He’s well on his way to a career-high in tackles and continues to play solid pass coverage in his fourth season.
Kyle Hamilton, one of the NFL’s most talented defensive players, has lacked a reliable partner in the Ravens’ secondary. Baltimore has rotated Marcus Williams and Ar’Darius Washington at free safety this season, but neither has delivered inspiring performances.
Adding Tre’von Moehrig to the mix would be a smart move by general manager Eric DeCosta. Pairing Hamilton’s size and speed with Moehrig’s physicality and coverage skills would create one of the league’s most dynamic and versatile safety tandems, significantly strengthening the Ravens’ secondary.
While the Raiders would be wise to re-sign Moehrig—one of the few bright spots on their defense since being drafted in the second round in 2021—his potential availability in free agency makes Baltimore an intriguing destination. If Moehrig does hit the open market, he could help transform the Ravens’ secondary into one of the NFL’s elite units.
