Arizona State’s top high school football recruit for the class of 2025 will have to wait a bit longer before joining the Sun Devils.
Cam Dyer, a 4-star quarterback from La Cueva High School in New Mexico, injured his right knee during La Cueva’s state semifinal win over Las Cruces in late November. Despite the setback, Dyer finished that game and returned the following week to lead La Cueva in the NMAA 6A state championship against Cleveland.
The dual-threat quarterback was significantly hampered by the injury, forcing him to play as a pocket passer in the 26-8 championship loss. Playing through the pain, Dyer completed just 6 of 27 passes for 85 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while rushing 9 times for 36 yards.
On Thursday, Dyer shared a post-surgery photo on social media, showing his knee propped up on two pillows with a large brace and an ice machine attached. The full extent of his injury and his recovery timeline have not yet been disclosed.
Dyer graduated early from La Cueva and has already enrolled at Arizona State for the spring semester. Initially committed as a wide receiver, his progress at quarterback impressed head coach Kenny Dillingham, who announced that Dyer would have an opportunity to compete for the QB position.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 200 pounds, Dyer is a dynamic athlete and three-sport star, excelling in basketball and track and field in addition to football. During his senior season, he amassed an impressive 3,842 total yards and accounted for 51 touchdowns.
