Alabama, Kalen DeBoer To Host Elite Big 12 QB Commit

The recruitment of four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla, a Iowa State commit, has taken an interesting turn as of late with Alabama entering the picture.

Thomalla (6-foot-5, 195 pounds) plays for Millard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska. He ranks as the No. 10 quarterback, the No. 1 player in the state and the No. 122 recruit in the 2026 class (On3).

As a junior, Thomalla completed 69.6% of his passes for 3,664 yards with 47 touchdowns to three interceptions. Millard South captured its first state championship in 15 years in a 12-1 season.

Thomalla committed to the Cyclones on April 18 over Missouri, Duke, Arizona and Virginia. But that was before DeBoer and Co. extended a scholarship offer on May 15, opening the door for a visit to Tuscaloosa.

The Tide are expected to unofficially host Thomalla on May 30 before he takes an official trip to Iowa State on June 6, according to On3’s Blake Byler.

Alabama signed a top-three class in DeBoer’s first full recruiting cycle, including five-star quarterback Keelon Russell.

The future at the position is under question, as Russell, Ty Simpson and Austin Mack continue to compete for the starting role. And more talent in the quarterback room seems to be a goal for the Alabama staff.

Thomalla has yet to waiver from his commitment to Iowa State, though, and his trip to Alabama isn’t a surefire path to a flip for the Tide. There is still plenty of time in his recruitment ahead of his senior year.
