The Arizona State football team is focused on setting up redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt for success, bringing in additional talent during the winter transfer portal window.
Leavitt will have Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, redshirt sophomore Jordyn Tyson, and redshirt junior tight end Chamon Matayer returning next season, but he’ll need more support to address the team’s needs. ASU is losing senior Cam Skattebo, one of the nation’s top players, along with graduating receivers senior Xavier Guillory and graduate student Melquan Stovall, who have played key roles late in the season. Tyson’s playoff absence due to injury further underscores the need for reinforcements.
Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham has wasted no time reinforcing his roster, securing six commitments from the transfer portal so far. Among these additions is former Army sophomore running back Kaye Udoh, who committed to ASU on Saturday, potentially filling the void left by Cam Skattebo. Just a day later, Dillingham bolstered the offense further with the commitment of former Kentucky sophomore tight end Khamari Anderson.
Anderson is the fourth offensive skill player ASU has secured from the transfer portal this cycle, joining running back Kaye Udoh and wide receivers Noble Johnson, a redshirt freshman from Clemson, and Jalen Moss, a redshirt sophomore from Fresno State. All four are regarded as three-star transfer portal prospects.
Anderson steps in as a replacement for redshirt junior tight end Markeston Douglas, who returned to Florida State after a single season with ASU.
During his two seasons at Kentucky, Anderson appeared in 22 games, recording five catches for 29 yards this year and one catch for 11 yards as a freshman. A four-star recruit from the Class of 2023, Anderson was ranked as Michigan’s No. 2 high school prospect by 247Sports.
