On November 7, the Bears announced the addition of defensive back Tarvarius Moore to their active roster, along with DB JT Woods to the practice squad. These moves follow the placement of interior defensive lineman Andrew Billings and defensive back Jaylon Jones on the Reserve/Injured list. The Bears traded Herbert to Cincinnati ahead of the NFL trade deadline, receiving a future seventh-round pick in return.
On November 6, the Bears also signed cornerback Ameer Speed to their active roster and re-signed running back Darrynton Evans to the practice squad.
Background on JT Woods
JT Woods, drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022 as the 79th overall pick out of Baylor, has played in 13 games (starting once) in two seasons. The 6-foot-2, 193-pound defensive back logged 89 special teams snaps and 91 on defense, recording 8 tackles (7 solo, 1 assisted) so far in his career.
In college, Woods had a standout senior year at Baylor, starting all 14 games, leading the Big 12 with six interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), along with 57 tackles (44 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups, earning him an All-Big 12 honorable mention.
While he has yet to establish himself in the NFL, the Chargers experimented with him as both a safety and a cornerback in 2024. His coverage skills showed promise, but he was released during the final roster cuts. After a short stint on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, he was released on October 22.
Return of RB Darrynton Evans
Darrynton Evans, a former third-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2020, rejoins the Bears after spending parts of 2022 and 2023 with the team. Plagued by injuries with the Titans, he joined the Bears after being waived in 2022, where he saw limited action in six games, recording 14 carries for 64 yards (4.6 average) and a single reception for 33 yards.
In 2023, Evans briefly signed with the Indianapolis Colts, then spent time on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad before returning to the Bears in October. After a brief 2024 stint with the Buffalo Bills, he was released in November. His career totals include 62 carries for 246 yards (4.0 yards per carry), with one rushing touchdown, and 12 receptions for 120 yards with one receiving touchdown.
It remains to be seen if Evans will see game time as the season progresses.
