The Washington Commanders had high hopes for Jahan Dotson when they drafted him in the first round in 2022, aiming for an elite wide receiver. However, Dotson has yet to meet those expectations. Would the Commanders consider trading him so soon? Maybe, if it meant acquiring the Minnesota Vikings’ All-Pro wideout, Justin Jefferson.
Andrew Harbaugh from Vikings Wire proposed a trade package where the Commanders would send Dotson along with “first and second-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and second and fourth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft” to Minnesota for Jefferson.
Despite Jefferson’s value, the Vikings might consider the trade to avoid paying him a potentially record-breaking contract in 2025. The Commanders, with $42,729,698 in salary cap space per Spotrac.com, wouldn’t face the same financial pressure.
Including Dotson and future premium draft picks could make the trade enticing for the Vikings.
Dotson Still Has Potential to Prove
Dotson could be a valuable asset for the Vikings if the Commanders are ready to move on from the former Penn State star, who has only posted modest stats and struggled with ball security. Drafted 16th overall two years ago, Dotson has 93 catches for 1,170 yards and has dropped 11 passes, with Commanders’ quarterbacks being intercepted 11 times when targeting him, according to Pro Football Reference.
Dotson is under pressure to prove himself in his third season. His prospects could improve if he forms a strong connection with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, with whom he’s already been working to build chemistry during OTAs.
