Breaking: Former Penguins 5-Star sign with KHL team

Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Adam Clendening has signed a one-year deal with Kunlun Red Star, a Chinese team competing in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), as announced by the team on Wednesday.

Originally from Niagara Falls, N.Y., the 31-year-old Clendening has had a career spanning 12 seasons and 15 teams, including stints with both the Pittsburgh Penguins and their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Clendening’s tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins was short, featuring in nine games and notching one assist during the 2015-16 season.

Besides the Penguins, Clendening has also played in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Last season, the right-handed defenseman played for Ilves in Finland’s Liiga, where he amassed 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists) over 40 games.
