AJ McCarron, the highly-touted quarterback acquisition for the Buffalo Bills in 2018, has returned to familiar surroundings, albeit in a different league. The St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League have announced his rejoining ahead of the weekend. Originally intended to lead the Bills’ offense in 2018, McCarron’s plans were thwarted by a preseason shoulder injury, allowing then-rookie Josh Allen to take the reins. Subsequently, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders just before the start of the season
McCarron, renowned for his impressive college football career at the University of Alabama, spent much of the recent season within the Cincinnati Bengals’ setup, making appearances in two games towards the season’s end. Drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, McCarron has gained recognition for his performances in alternative football leagues, notably excelling in the revived XFL where he led in various statistical categories, earning him the MVP title last year as a member of the Battlehawks. St. Louis is part of the inaugural merger between four XFL teams and four United States Football League teams, with the unified UFL season slated to commence on March 30th.
In his NFL career spanning 19 games with four starts, McCarron has completed 113 of 179 passes for 1,192 yards, recording six touchdowns and three interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed 22 times for 68 yards and scored one touchdown. McCarron boasts a 2-2 record as a starter, with three starts for Cincinnati and one for the Houston Texans.
