The Magpies have encountered complications in negotiations to sign another target, prompting Eddie Howe to consider walking away from discussions and exploring other options.
So, who are Newcastle now negotiating with? Let’s take a look…
Newcastle Open Talks to Sign James Trafford
According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle has initiated talks to sign Burnley’s No.1 James Trafford after negotiations for Giorgi Mamardashvili with Valencia became challenging.
Reportedly, the Magpies had made a £35m bid for the Georgian international after their initial £21m offer was rejected by the Spanish club. Instead of increasing their bid again, Newcastle has shifted their focus to Trafford.
The 21-year-old is currently part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for UEFA EURO 2024, though it’s expected he might not make the final 26-man roster after a tough 2023/24 season with Burnley.
Trafford, who was signed by Burnley from Manchester City for £15m in July 2023, kept only two clean sheets in 28 Premier League appearances last season, conceding 62 goals and being dropped by Vincent Kompany for the final ten games.
