The NFL’s revised gambling guidelines, implemented in 2023, carry severe penalties, potentially including season-long suspensions, for players engaged in betting on NFL games.
After the NFL draft, Malik Nabers and his former LSU teammate, Jayden Daniels, opted to wager on who would win the NFL Rookie of the Year award.
Nabers initially revealed the bet on “The Pivot” podcast and reaffirmed it on the “All Facts No Brakes” podcast with Keyshawn Johnson earlier this week.
However, upon becoming aware of the NFL’s strict gambling policies, the $10,000 bet between Daniels and Nabers for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award has been called off.
Nabers, who was chosen as the sixth overall pick by the New York Giants, announced the decision after his first professional practice at the rookie minicamp on Friday.
The rookie wide receiver stated, “Now that I’m here, I’ve learned about sports betting and gambling. We’ve decided to cancel the bet. It was just a friendly challenge between two brothers aiming for success.”

Daniels, the former Heisman Trophy winner, also confirmed on Friday that they had canceled the bet. He made his practice debut with the Washington Commanders.
He commented, “We were unaware of the NFL’s gambling policy until last night. After discussing it with Malik, we decided to cancel the bet. Our focus is on being the best players for our respective teams and avoiding any trouble.”
Nabers was drafted by the Giants as the sixth overall pick, while Daniels, his former college quarterback, was selected as the No. 2 pick by the Washington Commanders.
