Before Kiké Hernández rejoined the Los Angeles Dodgers, there was a possibility of him signing with the New York Yankees. Despite the Yankees’ interest, Hernández’s preference remained with the Dodgers. Eventually, Hernández’s return to the Dodgers became feasible after the team traded Manuel Margot to the Minnesota Twins. Interestingly, the Yankees also expressed interest in Amed Rosario, as reported by Joel Sherman of The New York Post.
According to Sherman, Hernández had communicated his desire to return to the Dodgers early on, indicating he was willing to wait for them to create the necessary roster spot and financial flexibility by trading Margot, which they did. Hernández eventually signed with the Dodgers for $4 million. Similarly, the Yankees had offered Rosario a $4 million deal, but he chose to accept a lesser offer from the Tampa Bay Rays, signing for $1.5 million instead.
Rosario, who only played the latter half of the 2023 season with the Dodgers after being traded from the Cleveland Guardians, had a brief stint with the team, batting .256 with three home runs and eighteen RBIs in 48 games. Like Hernández, Rosario’s decision was driven by his desire for more playing time, leading him to opt for the Rays over the Yankees.
