Breaking news: Badgers transfer target heading to LSU

The Wisconsin Badgers were in contention for one of the top four spots for a defensive lineman in the transfer portal. They’ve been actively searching for an upgrade in that position, but their pursuit hit a snag.

Grand Valley State defensive lineman Jay’Viar Suggs, who was a target for the Badgers, announced on Wednesday that he’s joining the LSU Tigers instead.

Decision Day: Where Will Coveted Transfer Jay'Viar Suggs Commit?

Initially, there was a connection between Suggs and the Badgers, especially since his former teammate Nyzier Fourqurean and head coach Matt Mitchell had joined Wisconsin last season. However, LSU emerged as a strong contender during Suggs’s final visit, ultimately securing his commitment and leaving Wisconsin without the defensive lineman they were hoping for.

Suggs, standing at 6’3 and weighing 285 pounds, has an impressive track record with 42 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks over the past two seasons.

This offseason, the Badgers suffered significant losses in their defensive line group, with several players leaving the program. Although they’ve added Albany transfer Elijah Hills and some promising freshmen, such as Ernest Willor Jr., Hank Weber, and Dillan Johnson, they’re still on the lookout for a more seasoned player to bolster their ranks before the upcoming season.
