The 2024 Buffalo Bills schedule is out, and with the NFL draft concluded, their roster is nearly finalized. However, as the team enters the brief lull between OTAs and training camp, there are still opportunities for General Manager Brandon Beane to make some key additions. Here are the top three trade targets to strengthen the Bills’ roster for next season.
WR Treylon Burks, Tennessee Titans
The Bills’ wide receiver depth chart is still evolving. Currently, rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, and Curtis Samuel are the starters, supported by veterans like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chase Claypool, KJ Hamler, Mack Hollins, and unproven players such as Justin Shorter and Tyrell Shavers.
While this group is serviceable, adding a young player with potential could significantly improve it. Treylon Burks, selected 22nd overall by the Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft, could be that player. Although he was expected to be a standout receiver, injuries have limited him to 49 catches for 665 yards and one touchdown over two seasons.
Recent comments from teammate DeAndre Hopkins suggest the Titans may have lost confidence in Burks, potentially making him available for a bargain price. If so, the Bills should consider pursuing this trade to enhance their receiving corps.
CB Greg Newsome II, Cleveland Browns
The Bills have experienced losses at the cornerback position, with Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson departing. The current lineup includes Rasul Douglas, Christian Benford, Taron Johnson, Kaiir Elam, and Cam Lewis, but the secondary is not as robust as in previous years.
Greg Newsome II, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, could be a valuable addition. His 2024 cap hit is a manageable $4.6 million, and the Browns have picked up his fifth-year option for 2025. If Newsome can thrive in a new environment, he would be a solid investment for the Bills’ secondary.
S Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals
The Bills’ biggest offseason losses were Pro Bowl safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, who were key to their defensive success. Despite a solid succession plan with Taylor Rapp, Cole Bishop, and Damar Hamlin, the team lacks a proven playmaker at safety.
Budda Baker, a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, could fill this gap. Frustrated with the Cardinals’ consistent losing record, Baker requested a trade last offseason. Given Arizona’s poor performance last season, he may still be open to a move. Acquiring Baker at a reasonable cost could elevate the Bills’ defense to a top-five unit next season.
