Breaking news: Blockbuster Trade Sends 2-Time All-Star to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster is packed with superstars, and a proposed trade from Bleacher Report suggests adding another: Toronto Blue Jays’ shortstop Bo Bichette.

Zachary D. Rymer noted, “L.A. would be staying within its playbook if it traded for Bichette and moved him to second base.” However, given that Mookie Betts demonstrated his capability at second last year, the Dodgers could easily shift him there instead.

The Blue Jays, currently 25-29, have several potential trade candidates, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bichette being the most notable. Rymer’s proposed trade suggests sending Bichette to Los Angeles in exchange for one of their top prospects.

An unnamed executive told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, “They’ve talked to teams about it. The asks were ridiculous, but I think they’re going to try to retool a lot, and using those guys to get pieces may be the way to do it.”

Dodgers Would Send No. 2 Prospect for Bichette in Proposal

Although the Dodgers do not need a shortstop, as Mookie Betts has been performing well there this season, they could use an upgrade at second base. Rymer highlighted Betts’ impressive performance at shortstop with a 3.8 rWAR, enhanced by his .966 OPS and strong defensive stats, including four Defensive Runs Saved.

Rymer’s trade proposal involves sending the Dodgers’ No. 2 prospect, Josue De Paula, to Toronto for Bichette and right-hander Yimi García. He explains, “A one-for-one swap of Bichette and De Paula doesn’t quite work, so it’s a good thing the Dodgers also need a reliever.”

De Paula, ranked No. 81 overall by MLB Top 100, offers potential for the Blue Jays while the Dodgers receive an infield upgrade.

Gavin Lux has been the Dodgers’ primary second baseman but has struggled this season, with a .205/.256/.281 slash line and just one home run in 42 games. Bichette, although having a down year, would still be an upgrade over Lux at the plate, with a .246/.294/.362 slash line and four home runs. Bichette is a two-time All-Star, with strong past performances including leading the American League in hits in 2021 and 2022 and a career OPS of .812 with 93 home runs.

Acquiring Bichette would provide the Dodgers with a significant infield enhancement while the Blue Jays would gain a young prospect with considerable potential.
