Breaking news: Brewers lose to Astros, Top-star player takes loss

HOUSTON – Jake Meyers hit a two-run homer and Jeremy Peña added a three-run shot in the fifth inning, leading the Houston Astros to a 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. This win extended their season-long winning streak to six games.

Houston was down by two runs when Victor Caratini singled to start the fifth inning. Jose Altuve followed with an infield single, and then Peña launched a slider from Freddy Peralta into the left-field seats, putting the Astros ahead 5-4.

Hunter Brown (1-4) allowed four runs and four hits, walked three, and struck out several in five innings, securing his first win since September 13 after going 0-6 in his last nine starts.

The Brewers had runners on first and second with two outs in the seventh, but Rafael Montero struck out William Contreras to end the threat. Milwaukee also had two runners on with two outs in the eighth but failed to score when Bryan Abreu struck out Sal Frelick. Josh Hader pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his sixth save in seven opportunities.

Peralta (3-2) tied his season high by allowing five runs and eight hits over five innings.

Jake Bauers hit a solo homer, and Joey Ortiz added three hits, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning for the Brewers, whose two-game winning streak was snapped.

Bauers hit his homer in the second inning, putting Milwaukee up 1-0. Alex Bregman singled to start the bottom of the inning, then Jon Singleton hit into a force out, with Bregman out at second. Meyers followed with his fourth homer of the season, giving Houston a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, Bauers walked with one out, and Frelick walked with two outs. Ortiz then hit a three-run homer that just cleared the right-field fence, putting the Brewers back on top.

Trainer’s Room

Astros: Outfielder Chas McCormick (right hamstring discomfort) went 1-for-4 in his fourth rehab game for Double-A Corpus Christi on Friday night. Manager Joe Espada said McCormick will play one more game before being evaluated for a return.
