The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Friday that they’ve inked minor league deals with outfielders Albert Almora and Kyle Garlick, both of whom have been granted invites to spring training.
Albert Almora, originally drafted 6th overall by the Chicago Cubs in 2012, debuted in the majors in 2016. His career has seen stints with the Cubs, the New York Mets, and most recently, the Cincinnati Reds.
During his tenure with the Reds, Almora posted a .223 batting average across 64 games in his last season. His standout year came in 2018, where he amassed 127 hits and crossed home plate 62 times. Despite a challenging postseason in 2016 with the Cubs, where he went 0-for-10 at the plate, Almora contributed to the team’s World Series victory.
On the flip side, Kyle Garlick was a late-round pick, drafted in the 28th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015. He debuted in the majors with the Dodgers in 2019 and has since played for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Garlick’s 2023 season saw him appearing in 14 games for the Brewers, where he managed a 5-for-30 batting record. However, in his triple-A performances last season, Garlick impressed with 72 hits and 14 home runs across 79 games.
Following a spring training opener loss against the Colorado Rockies, the Diamondbacks are gearing up to take on the Rockies once more on Saturday at 1:10 PM.
