Philadelphia Eagles veteran cornerback James Bradberry took a major step back in 2023 after a solid 2022 campaign. Last season, the 30-year-old Bradberry had 54 combined tackles, 13 pass deflections, and an interception.
The veteran cornerback became a major liability in pass coverage, allowing a 59.4 completion percentage allowed on targets, a 114.3 pass rating allowed when targeted (career-high), and 11 receiving touchdowns (career-high).
That being said, Eagles fans thought the team might move on from Bradberry, who signed a three-year deal last offseason. However, Eagles GM Howie Roseman isn’t at that point yet, but he realized Bradberry didn’t have a good year.
“He’s working hard, but we’re not shying away from the fact that he didn’t have the year that he expected and we expected,” said Roseman (h/t Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice).
There’s still a slight chance that the Eagles could move on from Bradberry after Jun. 1, as they have a ton of cornerback depth and could look to address the position in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Last season, the Eagles got a glimpse of the future at cornerback as rookie Kelee Ringo started opposite Bradberry when Darius Slay was out due to arthroscopic knee surgery.
Ringo recorded 21 combined tackles, two pass deflections, a sack, and an interception. He also produced a 63.6 completion percentage allowed on targets, an 86.2 pass rating allowed when targeted, and gave up one receiving touchdown.
With the NFL Draft only a month away, it shall be interesting to see what the Eagles do at the cornerback spot, as they don’t want a repeat of last season.
