Jakarta has recruited JaQuori McLaughlin, a former NBA player from the Dallas Mavericks’ 2021/2022 season, for the 2024 Basketball Champions League (BCL) Asia, aiming to bolster their roster for both international and local Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) competitions, as stated by Pelita Jaya club president Andiko Ardi Purnomo.
McLaughlin, known for his versatility as a point guard and shooting guard, sees this move as a fresh challenge, expressing his determination to excel in his new environment at 1.93 meters tall.
After his stint with the Dallas Mavericks, McLaughlin played in the NBA G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2022 before moving to the Otago Nuggets in New Zealand in 2023.
Pelita Jaya has also secured the services of Justin Donta Brownlee, a Filipino-American player with experience in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel club.
Pelita Jaya Jakarta and Prawira Harum Bandung are Indonesia’s representatives in the 2024 BCL Asia, starting from the qualifying rounds in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and Jakarta, Indonesia, with the top-ranked teams advancing to the main tournament.
