It feels like just yesterday the college football season concluded with Michigan defeating Washington in the national championship game in Houston. As the game ended, college football fans entered the dreaded offseason, facing nearly eight months without their favorite sport. Now, it’s June, and college football is less than three months away. The weather is warming up, and we are inching closer to the new season. The 2024 season is fast approaching for Georgia football, and Bulldogs fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival.
Spring football is one of the highlights of the offseason, bringing a sense of hope to fan bases nationwide. It’s thrilling to see your team in action, even if it’s just a scrimmage. You begin to see the roster taking shape and projected depth charts emerging. With spring football over, fans are now in the home stretch. The cold winter months without football are tough, but the excitement of spring football makes it more bearable. The season is approaching quickly and will be here before we know it.
The upcoming college football season promises to be thrilling, with many changes to look forward to, including new rules, coaching shifts, conference realignments, and playoff expansions. One of the most intriguing aspects will be the new conferences. The Pac-12 is gone, and the Big Ten and SEC are gearing up to become super conferences.
The SEC will welcome Texas and Oklahoma next year, while the Big Ten is adding USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. Both conferences are poised to be incredibly competitive, with potential for even more schools to join in the future.
Next season, the College Football Playoff will expand to 12 teams, including first-round games on college campuses. This expansion means more teams will have a shot at the CFP, and there will be more games to enjoy.
Georgia football, in particular, is looking formidable. The Bulldogs have been dominant, winning back-to-back national titles before Alabama derailed their quest for a third consecutive championship last season. Georgia handled their regular season smoothly but lost to Alabama in the SEC title game, dropping out of the top four rankings. They went on to dominate Florida State in the Orange Bowl, winning 63-3.
Now, Georgia is preparing for the next season with high expectations. Despite losing some players to the transfer portal, the Bulldogs have brought in 11 transfers while losing 24, mostly before the spring window. Among the new transfers, one standout is Benjamin Yurosek, a tight end from Stanford.
Yurosek, who was limited by injury last season, previously showcased his talent with over 650 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2021 and 445 yards and one touchdown in 2022. At Georgia, he will be part of a more dynamic offense and paired with one of the best quarterbacks in the country, setting him up for a potentially big season.
Over the past three seasons, Yurosek received All-Pac-12 honors, even in his injury-shortened year. Following the success of Brock Bowers at Georgia, it’s easy to imagine Yurosek making a significant impact in 2024. The Bulldogs’ offense will continue to utilize their tight ends, and Yurosek’s reliability makes him a player to watch. Don’t be surprised if his name comes up frequently next season and if he contends for national awards. He is that talented.
