Iowa State football secured a commitment from former LSU cornerback Ryan Robinson on Tuesday evening. Robinson decided to join the Cyclones after receiving an offer from their coaching staff over the weekend. In high school, Robinson was a three-star recruit and ranked among the top 800 prospects in the 247Sports Composite.
A native of the New Orleans area, Robinson chose to walk on at LSU despite having approximately 25 scholarship offers, many from SEC schools. During his single season at LSU, he played in four games, mostly on special teams, and saw action as a cornerback in one game against Grambling.
At Iowa State, Robinson will join a depth chart that includes returning starter Myles Purchase. The Cyclones plan to start Jontez Williams opposite Purchase at cornerback this season, with Robinson competing for playing time alongside redshirt senior Darien Porter and JUCO transfer Matthew Bess.
The Cyclones’ season opener is against North Dakota.
