As The Memorial golf tournament approaches this weekend, Jack Nicklaus reflects on some of his memories, particularly those involving Tiger Woods.
Nicklaus discussed how his own marriage improved his game and thought it would have a similar effect on Tiger Woods.
Recalling an anecdote about Woods, Nicklaus said, “I don’t mean this in a nasty way, but I remember when Tiger was single, and then he got married. People asked, ‘How do you think that will affect Tiger’s career?’ I said, ‘I think it will only be a plus.’ He’s going to get tired of coming home and telling Butch Harmon, ‘Hey, Butch, I won another one.’”
“He had someone to share it with. You want to share your career and enjoy the fruits of your work,” Nicklaus added.
Unfortunately, Woods’ marriage ended in divorce due to his numerous affairs, which has impacted his game. Recently, Woods’ personal life has overshadowed his professional achievements, and as he nears the end of his career, it’s clear he is not the player he once was. Woods will miss The Memorial as he prepares for the US Open.
