The New York Mets adjusted their pitching rotation on Thursday, recalling left-handed pitcher Josh Walker from Triple-A Syracuse and sending lefty Joey Lucchesi back to Syracuse after a single game with the major league team, according to SNY.
Josh Walker’s Return Follows Strong May Performance in Triple-A
Walker has appeared in three games for the Mets in 2024, having been called up before their April 22 game against the San Francisco Giants. Over three innings, the second-year pitcher recorded three strikeouts with a flawless 0.00 ERA and a 0.667 WHIP.
The 29-year-old impressed manager Carlos Mendoza and the Mets’ decision-makers with his minor league performance in May, securing three of his four saves and posting a 1.69 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and 10 strikeouts.
Joey Lucchesi Sent Down After Rough Outing Against Phillies
Lucchesi struggled in his only start on Wednesday, giving up five earned runs on five hits, with two strikeouts and four walks over 4.1 innings in the Mets’ 10-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 30-year-old will return to Triple-A to refine his skills and potentially earn another chance in the majors if the Mets’ rotation faces further injuries or setbacks.
