Three-time Pro Bowler Odell Beckham is set to make his debut for the Miami Dolphins in Week 5, but a trade may be on the horizon. Miami entered the season with high hopes for a Super Bowl run, but almost everything that could go wrong has. After narrowly escaping with a win against a struggling Jacksonville Jaguars team, the Dolphins lost their starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, late in a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills. Now, with Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley at the helm, Miami finds itself at 1-3 with one of the league’s worst offenses.
Their struggles will be put to the test in Week 5 against the New England Patriots. The Patriots began the season strong with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals and a close loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but things fell apart quickly with two bad losses in Weeks 3 and 4. If Miami can’t secure a win against New England, it might be time to look toward 2025, potentially leading to a trade involving Beckham. Several contending teams could have interest in the veteran wide receiver.
While Beckham isn’t the top target for teams looking to trade for a wide receiver—options like Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, and possibly Cooper Kupp are likely higher priorities—he could still be a valuable addition for those missing out on a star. Last year, Beckham had a slow start but ended his season with the Ravens with 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns. He’s no longer in his prime, but he remains capable of contributing in the right situation.
A return to the Baltimore Ravens might be the most plausible outcome. Beckham had a strong finish to his 2023 season there, though Baltimore couldn’t re-sign him due to salary cap constraints. The Ravens, still seeking a complementary weapon to Zay Flowers, could benefit from Beckham’s familiarity with their system and quarterback Lamar Jackson. Miami would still cover his signing bonus, making the financial side easier for Baltimore.
Another possible destination is the Kansas City Chiefs, who are keeping an eye on the receiver market following an injury to Rashee Rice. While they may be targeting Davante Adams, a trade between the Raiders and a division rival seems unlikely. If Kansas City misses out on bigger names, Beckham could be a cost-effective alternative, providing reliable route-running and a chain-moving presence alongside their deep threats like rookie Xavier Worthy.
Lastly, the New Orleans Saints could be a strong fit. Despite a 2-2 record, the Saints have been playing at a high level and could easily be 4-0 with a few better breaks. Derek Carr is playing well, and adding Beckham could help mitigate concerns about the offensive line by giving Carr a quick, reliable target in short-yardage and checkdown situations.
