The Raiders finished second in the AFC West last year and are optimistic about challenging the Chiefs for the top spot, though star WR Davante Adams seems doubtful.
Adams recorded 1,144 receiving yards last year, a solid figure but his lowest since 2019 when he played only 12 games. Las Vegas’ quarterback situation is unstable, with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell vying for the starting role, and Adams seems aware that the offense’s potential is limited by these average quarterbacks.
When asked about the team’s prospects, Adams provided a tepid response.
Adams Says “We’ll See” About Raiders’ Potential
Following Vegas’ mandatory minicamp, Adams told the media, “At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter how good we can be…I guess we’ll see what that potential is.”

Having spent most of his career with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, Adams’ skepticism is understandable. Minshew is considered a reliable backup, while O’Connell had only 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions last year.
With the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and the Chargers’ Justin Herbert, it’s hard to see the Raiders competing seriously with Minshew and O’Connell. It’s likely the Raiders will be searching for a new quarterback next offseason.
This season feels like a placeholder for Adams, who will turn 32 in December, an age when receivers typically see a decline in production.
If Adams wants to return to his peak performance from the past five years, he might need to find a new team soon.
