The Saskatchewan Roughriders have inked a deal with American linebacker Diego Fagot, with his name pronounced as ‘Fuh-go’.
Standing at six-foot-three and weighing 240 pounds, Fagot went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. He had brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Roughnecks (XFL), and New England Patriots but didn’t get to play in any regular-season games in either league.
During his time at the United States Naval Academy, the 26-year-old earned first-team All-AAC honors in 2019 and second-team All-AAC honors in 2020. Across four collegiate seasons, he amassed impressive stats including 282 defensive tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, two interceptions, five pass breakups, six forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Fagot reportedly showcased impressive athletic abilities, clocking a 4.68-second forty-yard dash, along with a 36-inch vertical jump, 107-inch broad jump, 7.27-second three-cone drill, and 4.47-second short shuttle.
The Riders will kick off their 2024 regular season on Saturday, June 8, with a game against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.
