BREAKING NEWS: Top-star commits to Georgia over Penn State

Georgia’s focus on recruiting top-tier 2025 defensive backs remains strong with Rashad Johnson committing to the Bulldogs.

On Sunday night, the South Sumter (Fla.) safety announced his decision to choose Georgia over Penn State and Texas A&M. Johnson informed the coaches about a week after his official visits.

Johnson explained why he chose the Bulldogs:

Rashad Johnson says Cardinals never made offer to keep him

“I knew it was Georgia when I went up there on a visit. It just felt like home,” Johnson told Dawgs247. “It’s the standard of everything. I want to get coached by the best.”

In June, Johnson officially visited four programs — Louisville, Penn State, Georgia, and Texas A&M. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety adjusted his official visit schedule, initially including UCF, to fit in Georgia. He visited Athens from June 14-16.

Johnson waited until after his visits to inform the coaches of his decision. He visited Texas A&M the following week, then returned home to discuss with his parents before finalizing his choice and notifying the coaches from all four programs that he picked Georgia. Penn State finished second in his recruitment.

Ultimately, the relationship and history with new co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Travaris Robinson swayed him.

“With T-Rob, I want to get coached by the best. He’s done his thing in the past. I feel like I can come in and do my thing with him,” Johnson said. “He’s been one of my favorite coaches through the whole process.”

During his official visit, Johnson spent much of his time with player-host Joenel Aguero, aligning with how Georgia is recruiting him. Robinson, with secondary recruiter Donte Williams, told Johnson during film study they see him playing either Star or free safety for the Bulldogs.
