Happy 4th of July, everyone! LSU had their own celebration today as four-star defensive tackle Zion Williams announced his commitment to the team.
Williams, from Lufkin, was initially recruited by Bo Davis while he was at Texas. After Davis joined LSU, their relationship continued, leading Williams to choose LSU.
“I feel like Coach Bo has my best interests at heart and wants to help me reach a position where I can support a family,” Williams told On3. “It meant a lot when he said he thinks I have three-year potential, but I’ll get my degree first.”
Standing at 6’5” and 330 pounds, Williams is a formidable presence. He’s a composite four-star recruit, ranked among the top 200 by ESPN and 366th overall by On3, with ESPN rating him as a top defensive tackle.

While LSU has excelled in recruiting offensive players, the defensive side has taken longer to build, especially after Brian Kelly replaced the entire defensive staff. Recently, however, defensive commitments have started to come in. Tampa area edge rusher Jesse Harrold committed two weeks ago, Williams joined today, and there’s a possibility that four-star edge Damien Shanklin from Indianapolis will announce his commitment to LSU tomorrow. Shanklin is choosing between LSU, Alabama, and Ohio State, with many expecting him to pick LSU.
LSU’s recruiting class is currently ranked 4th nationally by On3, behind Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia. Notably, LSU has the fewest commits among the top four, with only 13 compared to Ohio State’s 22, Alabama’s 20, and Georgia’s 17, emphasizing quality over quantity.
