The New York Yankees find themselves in a considerably improved position compared to the conclusion of the 2024 season. Forecasts suggest they’ll rank among the elite teams in the American League for 2024, yet they still lack depth in certain areas. This offseason, the Yankees made significant enhancements to their roster, securing star talents like Juan Soto and Marcus Stroman. Despite these upgrades, the team could benefit from bolstering their offensive options following a challenging 2023 campaign. Surprisingly, one potential solution that has emerged is J.D. Davis, a versatile player with experience from the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Houston Astros.
Recently placed on waivers by the Giants, Davis has been suggested as a viable addition to the Yankees by The Athletic’s Chis Kirschner. Kirschner remarked, “Yankees have two openings on the bench. Davis would be better than every candidate currently on the roster vying for one of the spots.” Davis, a seasoned slugger, was drafted by the Astros in 2014 and entered the big leagues in 2017. With seven years of Major League experience under his belt, Davis could offer valuable contributions to New York’s lineup.
In his most recent season with the Giants, Davis appeared in 144 games, smashing 18 home runs and tallying 69 RBIs while maintaining a batting line of .248/.325/.413. While the Yankees have made strides in their offensive capabilities, there’s still room for improvement, especially following Oswald Peraza’s injury.
