One day after Carson Beck officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, the former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback has committed to the Miami Hurricanes.

Just a day prior, multiple reports suggested that Beck was planning to enter the portal, instantly becoming the top transfer prospect of the cycle. Hours later, Beck entered with a “do not contact” tag, a common indicator that the athlete has a clear idea of their preferred destination.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted that “Miami looms as the favorite” to land Beck. The Hurricanes, who currently have only two scholarship quarterbacks—Emory Williams and Judd Anderson—on their roster, are also expecting freshman Luke Nickel, a USA Top 100 National Player of the Year, to arrive on campus when classes start on January 13.

Beck’s last game appearance was on December 7, 2024, in the SEC Championship against the Texas Longhorns. During that game, he injured his throwing elbow on the final play of the first half while completing a pass. At the time of the injury, Beck was 7-of-13 for 56 yards and was replaced by sophomore Gunner Stockton for the remainder of the game.

After consulting several medical professionals, Beck underwent successful surgery on December 23, 2024, to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, a renowned orthopedic surgeon who also repaired the UCL of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who has since shown full recovery following his surgery in March 2023.

Shortly after undergoing surgery, Carson Beck declared for the NFL Draft on December 28. According to a release from UGA athletics, he is expected to make a full recovery and resume throwing in the spring, though it remains uncertain if he will fully participate in Miami’s spring practices.

The Jacksonville, Florida native and Mandarin High School graduate had an impressive 2024 season, completing 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. On the ground, Beck added 71 rushing yards and one touchdown, with a season-long 14-yard run against Tennessee.

Beck’s season began strongly with Georgia starting 3-0. In his first three games, he threw seven touchdowns, no interceptions, and 680 yards. However, a marquee matchup against Alabama saw him rack up 439 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. In that game, Beck led a furious comeback from a 28-point deficit, giving Georgia a brief 34-33 lead with just over two minutes left. The comeback ultimately fell short when Beck’s final interception, targeting former Miami receiver Colbie Young in the end zone, sealed the loss.

In 2023, Beck helped lead Georgia to a 13-1 record, capped by a dominant 63-3 Orange Bowl win over Florida State. He threw for a career-high 3,941 yards that season, completing 72.4% of his passes, the best rate of his starting career. Over his Bulldogs tenure, Beck compiled a stellar 24-3 record, highlighted by a 459-yard outing against Mississippi State and two five-touchdown performances in 2024 against Tennessee Tech and Georgia Tech.

A highly touted recruit, Beck was ranked as the fifth-best quarterback in the 2020 class by 247Sports. A multi-sport athlete, he also played AAU basketball and was an SEC baseball prospect. He earned Florida’s Mr. Football title in 2018 after leading Mandarin High School to a Class 8A state championship.

Standing 6’4” and weighing just under 220 pounds, Beck is a poised pocket passer known for his accurate deep ball and ability to manipulate defenses with pump fakes. While primarily a passer, he is an underrated athlete capable of extending plays or gaining yards with his legs. Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is expected to incorporate some designed runs into the offense for Beck as he joins the Hurricanes for his fifth-year senior season.

With Miami returning three starters on the offensive line and adding former TCU center James Brockermeyer—ranked as the top interior offensive lineman in the transfer portal—Carson Beck will have a veteran group protecting him. He’ll also benefit from the return of running backs Mark Fletcher and Jordan Lyle, giving the Hurricanes a solid foundation for their offense.

In addition to Beck, Miami bolstered its receiving corps by landing two key transfers. Former LSU wideout CJ Daniels, who had a breakout season in 2023 with the Liberty Flames, caught 55 passes for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Daniels adds size and experience to Miami’s receiving unit. Two and a half weeks after Daniels’ commitment, former Tulane tight end Alex Bauman pledged to the Hurricanes. Over 38 games with the Green Wave, Bauman recorded 63 receptions for 610 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is expected to step into the role left by Elijah Arroyo, who declared for the NFL Draft on December 31.

During his time at Georgia, Beck served as the backup to Stetson Bennett for both of the Bulldogs’ national championship-winning seasons in 2022 and 2023. Now, Beck joins a Miami program riding high after Cam Ward’s historic Heisman Trophy-winning campaign, which set school records for passing yards, touchdown passes, and the most 300-yard games in a single season. Beck will look to build on this momentum as he leads a retooled Hurricanes offense in 2025.
