Thanks to securing the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs acquired the exceptional French talent Victor Wembanyama, following the legacy of great big men coached by Gregg Popovich, such as David Robinson and Tim Duncan.
Wembanyama lived up to expectations in his debut season, winning NBA Rookie of the Year and becoming a finalist for NBA Defensive Player of the Year. However, the Spurs struggled during the 2023-24 regular season, ending with a disappointing 22-60 record, one of the worst in the league.
Looking ahead, San Antonio has two top picks in the 2024 NBA Draft, selecting at No. 4 and No. 8. These picks could potentially be used to make a significant offseason trade.
With a clear need at the point guard position, the Spurs are reportedly interested in trading for Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Sam Amico via NBACentral.

In addition to their two first-round picks, the Spurs hold two second-round picks this year, which could be leveraged in a blockbuster trade for Garland or another key player this summer.
With the Cavaliers likely to offer superstar guard Donovan Mitchell a lucrative long-term contract extension, Garland might be considered expendable, making a trade with the Spurs a viable scenario.
