Mark Robins acknowledges that Haji Wright, Coventry City’s top scorer in the league, may miss the upcoming M69 derby against Leicester this weekend. Initially, the Sky Blues manager had expressed a more optimistic outlook on Friday before the FA Cup third-round match against Oxford United. This positive assessment followed Wright experiencing groin pain at Middlesbrough, which led to him being substituted.
Wright, aged 25, left the field at the Riverside Stadium on New Year’s Day after scoring his eighth goal of the season, contributing to a 3-1 victory for his team. This game marked the fourth within a ten-day period for Coventry City, during which the American striker played every match. He played the full 90 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, and came on as a late substitute in the last ten minutes against Sunderland and Boro.
In an update on Wright’s condition ahead of the FA Cup match on Saturday, Robins stated, “He’s OK. He just had a feeling of some pain in his adductor muscles, but he’s OK. Obviously when we speak about the games that we’ve had and the accumulation of fixtures it can make people feel a bit tired. The fatigue plays a part but he’s OK. He’s been offloaded this week but he’s definitely in good spirits.”
