The Detroit Lions made several roster adjustments ahead of their Wild Card clash against the Los Angeles Rams.
In preparation for the game, cornerback Jerry Jacobs and tight end James Mitchell were officially placed on injured reserve, marking the conclusion of their seasons. Mitchell underwent hand surgery on Friday to address an injury, while Jacobs is contending with a lower-body issue.
To fill the void, tight end Anthony Firkser and Chase Lucas have been added to the active roster. Additionally, defensive lineman Tyson Alualu and fullback Jason Cabinda have been promoted from the practice squad for Sunday’s matchup.
It’s worth noting that Lucas had been waived before Week 17 to make way for kicker Michael Badgley.
After successfully passing through waivers, he returned to the Lions and joined the practice squad. Throughout the current season, he has participated in 12 games, mainly contributing on special teams.
Both Alualu and Firkser have seen action in two games each as elevations during the regular season. A seasoned veteran with 14 years of experience, Alualu has registered four tackles with the Lions this season.
Firkser, on the other hand, has yet to secure a catch. The Lions’ tight end depth has been strained recently, with Mitchell sidelined and the status of star rookie Sam LaPorta uncertain due to a knee injury.
The Lions are scheduled to face the Rams at 8 p.m. on Sunday at Ford Field. Detroit is aiming for its first playoff victory since 1991.
