On Tuesday night, the Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback group experienced a reduction with Jayden Maiava’s decision to transfer to USC instead of remaining at Georgia. Despite initially committing to the Bulldogs earlier in the week, reports from Greg Biggins indicated Maiava’s change of plans, leading him to head to California. Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, the 6-foot-4 quarterback played in 14 games for the UNLV
Rebels this season, amassing 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and a completion percentage just below 64%. Maiava’s sudden departure leaves the Bulldogs with only three scholarship quarterbacks for the upcoming 2024 college football season, falling short of head coach Kirby Smart’s goal of having four. In a press conference last December, Smart expressed the team’s aim to maintain four scholarship quarterbacks, stating, “Our hard number is four. We want to be at four, and we’re not at four. So again, we’ll look at our options and see what we can do there. We would like to be at four, but that’s our goal.” Consequently, the Bulldogs are expected to explore alternative options to secure a fourth quarterback for the 2024 season.
