Newcastle United’s injury woes persist as one player, initially expected to be fit for the match against Manchester City, is now anticipated to be weeks away from making a return.
Joe Willock has played in only six matches for Newcastle United this season in various competitions. His limited appearances can be attributed to a hamstring injury carried over from the previous season, followed by a new issue with his Achilles tendon in November.
According to a recent report from The Athletic, the midfielder, Joe Willock, is expected to remain sidelined for several more weeks. This comes as a contrast to earlier speculations that he was eyeing a return for the game against Manchester City.
Newcastle have really missed Willock’s energy this season
In a season where Newcastle has occasionally displayed a lack of dynamism on the ball, revealing a need for added speed, Joe Willock’s absence has been particularly noticeable, especially in the past month. There was a brief period when the midfielder returned from his hamstring injury, showcasing precisely the energetic runs into the box that Newcastle had been missing.
During this stint, Willock scored an impressive goal against Manchester United in a 3-0 Carabao Cup victory. Unfortunately, his return was short-lived as he soon suffered another injury. Now, with Joelinton also expected to be unavailable in January, Newcastle faces a significant midfield challenge. The team may have to once again rely on the young Lewis Miley in crucial matches against Manchester City and Aston Villa.
