Ranked at No. 5 overall in the 247Sports 2024 Composite, VJ Edgecombe, the undecided recruit from Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) guard, is the top prospect in his class. Despite being uncertain about his college choice, the highly sought-after Duke basketball target has confirmed that he will make his decision known this weekend. Having narrowed down his options to Duke, Baylor, and Kentucky in late December, Edgecombe is currently participating in the talent-filled Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts. He intends to unveil his choice during the halftime of the game featuring Montverde Academy (Fla.) and Prolific Prep (Calif.), scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday (ESPN2).
As of the publication of this article, all five predictions in the 247Sports Crystal Ball and Rivals FutureCast favor Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils to secure VJ Edgecombe’s commitment over the Bears and Wildcats. Despite this consensus, some insiders remain cautious and haven’t completely ruled out the possibility of Baylor or Kentucky securing Edgecombe’s services.
The 6-foot-5, 180-pound five-star prospect, known for his impressive athleticism and showmanship, received an offer from Duke basketball in early July. Additionally, he attended an official visit during the same weekend as Countdown to Craziness in October.
During VJ Edgecombe’s visit with the Blue Devils, it happened to overlap with visits from all five highly regarded 2024 prospects. These prospects have since committed and signed their national letter of intent, collectively forming the top-ranked recruiting class in the nation.
Now, with the opportunity on Sunday, Jon Scheyer and his team have a chance to further solidify their top-ranking status in recruiting.
