The former Ohio State safety, Jordan Fuller, is making his first move in his NFL career.
After his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams ended, Fuller became a free agent this offseason, seeking a new team.
He found his new team on Friday when he signed with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Fuller agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5.25 million, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Fuller, who had a productive four-year career with the Buckeyes, was drafted by the Rams in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He quickly became a starter in LA and remained so when healthy throughout his four seasons with the franchise. His standout season came in 2021 when he recorded 113 tackles, four passes defended, and an interception. Last season, despite being injured for much of the year, he managed a career-high three interceptions and three forced fumbles.
During his time at Ohio State, Fuller gradually rose to prominence. As a freshman, he played in six games, tallying 11 total tackles. In his sophomore year, he secured a starting safety role and finished the season with 62 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions, earning him third-team All-Big Ten honors.
In 2018, as a team captain, Fuller had a strong season despite missing the first game due to injury, recording 81 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, four passes defended, two fumble recoveries, and one interception.
Returning for his senior year in 2019, Fuller played a crucial role in Ohio State’s defense, contributing to their success as they won the Big Ten title and reached the College Football Playoff.
In other NFL news, there’s speculation about star quarterback Deshaun Watson’s potential interest in joining the Carolina Panthers.
According to Fox Sports analyst Jason McIntyre, Watson, who is unhappy with the Houston Texans, might consider waiving his no-trade clause to play for the Panthers. McIntyre mentioned that Watson has expressed a desire to “come home” and play for Matt Rhule’s team, considering his roots in Atlanta, which is close to Charlotte.
While Watson has not officially requested a trade, the Texans are reportedly open to considering offers from interested teams. However, they would require substantial assets in return for Watson, who is under contract until 2025.
Meanwhile, former Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins is also in the spotlight as he looks to restart his NFL career.
Haskins, who was released by Washington last month, has a meeting scheduled with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are reportedly exploring options to bolster their quarterback position for the upcoming season, given the uncertainty surrounding Teddy Bridgewater’s performance.
Despite some off-field incidents and criticisms, Haskins remains a talented player with potential. He aims to bounce back and prove himself in the NFL after a challenging period with Washington.
