The Houston Texans are signing running back Cam Akers, according to several reports on Sunday night. Akers, who worked out for the Texans earlier that day, will be joining his third NFL team. He previously spent over three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings last September.
During his time with the Vikings, the 25-year-old played in six games, carrying the ball 38 times for 138 yards and one touchdown, and making 11 receptions for 70 yards. A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Akers has appeared in 36 NFL games (15 starts), accumulating 1,581 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, 38 receptions, 320 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown.
He missed most of the 2021 season due to a left Achilles tendon tear before training camp and tore the same Achilles in Week 9 last season, ending his stint with the Vikings prematurely. Earlier this offseason, Houston traded for former Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals. The Texans’ running back lineup also features Dameon Pierce, who has rushed for 1,355 yards in his first two NFL seasons. Field Level Media 2024 – All Rights Reserved.
