Ohio State boasts some of the nation’s top talent across most positions, but the offensive line has been a consistent area of concern. The unit has been under scrutiny for a while, often being blamed when the team falls short in crucial games, with critics pointing to a lack of toughness.
Offensive line coach Justin Frye has faced significant criticism from Buckeye fans, with many calling for his dismissal after last season. However, head coach Ryan Day decided to retain him, giving Frye another opportunity. Recently, Frye has struggled in recruiting, losing out on key prospects. Last week, the Buckeyes missed out on five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr., the top-ranked lineman in the 2025 class, who committed to Tennessee in a surprise move. A few days earlier, they also lost four-star offensive lineman Josh Petty to Georgia Tech.
After these setbacks, Frye needed a win on the recruiting trail, and just before the Buckeyes kicked off their season against Akron, he secured a crucial commitment. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3.com, four-star offensive lineman Jayvon McFadden has committed to Ohio State, choosing the Buckeyes over Maryland and South Carolina.
Standing 6’4″ and weighing 290 pounds, McFadden is ranked as the 25th best inside offensive lineman in the 2025 class and 407th overall by 247sports.com. While McFadden may not have the same ranking as Sanders and Petty, he possesses valuable skills and potential that Buckeye fans should appreciate. With time, he could develop into a key starter in Columbus.
