Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed the media for the first time since Packers quarterback Jordan Love signed a substantial four-year, $220 million contract.
This deal has significant implications for the ongoing contract talks between the Cowboys and their star quarterback, Dak Prescott. When asked about how Love’s contract might impact negotiations with Prescott, Jones was reserved in his response. However, he did praise Prescott’s dedication, noting that the quarterback had reported to training camp despite the unresolved contract situation.
Jones avoided making direct comparisons between Love and Prescott, recognizing the risks of doing so. Instead, he focused on his enthusiasm for Prescott’s future with the Cowboys.
“I get into trouble when I start making comparisons,” Jones said. “I’m eager for Dak to prove he’s the best with that Cowboys star.”
Simultaneously, the Cowboys are negotiating a contract with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is currently holding out from training camp. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed that a new offer was made to Lamb and his team on Friday.
“It’s the situation we’re in,” Jones said, via DallasCowboys.com. “What I do appreciate is that Dak is here, practicing. Some players aren’t, but Dak’s commitment is clear. He’s the best leader I’ve ever seen in his role, and that’s why he’s out here practicing. It’s what he signed up for.”
Jerry Jones echoed these sentiments, saying, “We’re in talks. Make no mistake, we’re talking.”
As training camp continues, the Cowboys are working to secure long-term contracts for two of their key players. The team remains optimistic that agreements will be reached.
