It appears that Fox News shared a tribute to Frank Thomas, mistakenly believing he had passed away. Thomas took to social media to assure everyone of his well-being. In a post on X, he expressed his disappointment with his former employer, stating, “Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m very sorry my ex-employer Fox would be this irresponsible on National TV this morning. Yes, I’m alive and doing well. This blows my mind also.” Alongside the message, Thomas included a photo of himself smiling in a car.
Fox News was accurate in reporting the passing of a former MLB player named Frank Thomas who played in the 50s and 60s. This particular Frank Thomas passed away at the age of 93.
UPDATE: Fox News has issued a response acknowledging their mistake and has issued an apology, correcting their initial statement.
In April of this year, Thomas received recognition as Auburn’s SEC Baseball Legend. Additionally, Auburn baseball paid tribute to the MLB Hall of Famer by unveiling a statue outside of Plainsman Park.
Expressing his emotions, Thomas remarked to reporters shortly after the unveiling, “To see that statue, it really brought a tear to my eye because it is perfect. Absolutely perfect. They nailed it. And it looks like me in college, not in the pros.”
Thomas had a notable baseball career at Auburn, playing for the university in 1987 and 1989.
